Money remained a problem, especially during the Fall of 1990. Michael was living on Terri's Social Security disability payments, and Bob was working....We were living from paycheck to paycheck....Fund-raisers were held on Terri's behalf, not only by our neighbors but also by Terri's co-workers at Prudential. There were bake sales, a Valentine Day dance in her honor, a Terri Schiavo Day. Over Christmas, a mile-long line of candles placed on sandbags was set up along the seawall, and people could buy the bags....Beyond the formal events, individual donations arrived from dozens of citizens, ... This city has proclaimed today Terri Schiavo day.

Last year Mrs. Schiavo, 27, suffered a loss of potassium in her body that caused her heart to stop beating and resulted in a coma. She underwent surgery, performed by Dr. Yoshio Hosobuchi of the University of California at San Francisco in December, to implant a stimulator in her brain.

The brain stimulator implant was a success, said her husband, Mike. Mrs. Schiavo is slowly emerging from the coma at the Mediplex Medical Center, a neurological care center in Bradenton, he said. She will undergo at least a year of speech, occupational and physical therapy.

A Feb. 9 Valentine's dance, sponsored by the Vina Del Mar Island Association, raised $1,575 for the Theresa Schiavo Trust Fund.

February 22, 1991: Terri shows signs of being in pain. Bone scan is ordered.

March 1, 1991: Schindlers pay off mortgage on property at 6210 Sun Blvd.

6210 Sun Blvd., Apt. 110-F of Casa Del Mar III, a Condominum, according to the declaration thereof as recorded in OR BK 4608, beginning at page 1493 and plat of same contained therein asn as recorded in cunominium plat BK 26, pages 18 through 41 given to secure the debt as described therein, has received full payment of said indebtedness, and does hereby acknowledge satisfaction of said mortgage, and hereby directs the Clerk of Circuit Court to cancel the same record.

March 5, 1991: 53 weeks after Terri’s collapse, a bone scan taken of Terri revealed a healed broken Right Femur Bone and healed bone fractures in Terri’s Ribs, Pelvis, Spine and Ankle. The radiologist, Dr. Walker, concluded that “Terri has a history of trauma” and presumed “that the other multiple areas of abnormal activity also relate to previous trauma.” An orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Hamilton, initially saw Terri after she collapsed.
