Scott Jeffrey Therriault, age 42, of Fairfield, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2014 in his home. Born in Schenectady, NY, Scott had been a Fairfield resident for the last 12 years. He graduated from the University of Rochester with a degree in Economics. Scott worked as a trader on Wall Street for Merrill Lynch, J.P. Morgan and UBS, and most recently was a commercial real estate investor. Scott loved to golf but above all else loved spending time with his family and friends. He was so proud of his children and loved them dearly. Scott had a true love for life, had an infectious sense of humor and delighted in making people laugh. He was loved by so many people who had the privilege of knowing him. Survivors include his lifelong partner, Katy Biscone of Fairfield; three cherished children, Alexandra, Ella and Billy Therriault; his father, Thomas Therriault and his wife Sharon of Saratoga Springs, NY; his mother, Sylvia James and her husband Charles of Niskayuna, NY; a brother, Bryan Therriault and his wife Erica of Stamford; a sister, Rebecca McCarthy and her husband Brendon of Boston, MA; maternal grandmother, Mary Harley of Rotterdam, NY; paternal grandparents, Marie and Thomas Therriault of Saratoga Springs, NY; a nephew Justin Therriault; two step-sisters, Pamela and Jennifer James. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Albert Harley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. meeting directly at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Dr., Fairfield. Interment will be private. Therriault, Scott Jeffrey SOUTHPORT, Conn. Scott Jeffrey Therriault, born on February 29, 1972, passed away on October 25, 2014. Scott graduated Albany Academy in 1990. He graduated with a bachelor of science in economics from the University of Rochester. He had a passion for baseball and a reputable record as a pitcher and shortstop. Scott was also a successful businessman in the world of finance on Wall Street and recent work of commercial real estate. Scott was a wonderful son. His brother, Bryan Therriault, and sisters, Pamela and Jenn James and Becky McCarthy, will miss him very much. Scott was a devoted father to his three children, Alexandria, Ella and Billy. As Founding Principal, Mr. Therriault brings 17 years of comprehensive capital market analysis expertise, equities trading experience, as well as, a wealth of deeply rooted, high level relationships in the investment banking community to BTRE. During his service at Merrill Lynch, JPMorgan Chase and UBS, Mr. Therriault consistently ranked amongst the top 5% in his production categories and was personally responsible for over $25 billion in equities transactions. Scott has aggregated in excess of $500 million in net profits on behalf of the financial institutions and investment banks that have employed him throughout his esteemed career. Mr. Therriault began taking equity positions in residential development and privately syndicated real estate investments in 2007. BTRE Partners is his inaugural venture as founder and lead equity investor.

In 1995, Scott began his career in the financial services industry at First Albany Corporation where he earned his Series 7 license and was trained in capital markets analysis, institutional equities trading and mergers & acquisitions. Mr. Therriault later joined Merrill Lynch where he became one of the youngest members of the firm to be promoted to the Director of Equities Trading position, reaching the top 5% in net production from 1999-2002. During his time with Merrill, Scott also managed large risk commitments of corporate capital for the firmís institutional client base and was instrumental in coordinating the groupís mentoring and executive recruitment programs.

Mr. Therriault became an Executive Director at JP Morgan Chase in 2002, where he managed a team of eight traders who focused on the technology, media and telecom sectors of the NASDAQ exchange. Scott was later identified as the groupís top NASDAQ producer in 2004 and he ranked 3rd in overall Wall Street trading volume within the semi-conductor sector. His commitment to implementing innovative sales and marketing techniques on the institutional block trading desk helped create more efficient trading performance and fostered synergies between the pure equities, derivative trading, and investment banking divisions of JPM.

In 2004, Mr. Therriault was successfully recruited by UBS specifically to provide senior leadership to the firmís equities sales & trading group. There, he continued to target the technology, media and telecom sectors of the market. Through the introduction of advanced trading strategies, initiatives and algorithmic platforms, Scott became a key contributor to an exemplary team performance in high risk NASDAQ block trading and continued to be the groupís top ranked producer through the establishment of new institutional trading relationships. By 2007, UBS ranked 1st globally in overall NASDAQ market share.

Scott J.Therriault graduated with honors from the University of Rochester, New York, where he was a two-year letterman for the varsity baseball squad. He is a founding member of the Connecticut Chapter of Fight SMA, a non-profit organization dedicated to funding research efforts to cure Spinal Muscular Atrophy. As Managing Partner, Mr. Burke is responsible for providing ground level oversight and training support to BTRE Partners personnel, and managing day to day company operations. Additionally, he is the primary facilitator and manager of new clients and lending relationships specific to the CRE debt and equity placement consulting division of BTRE. Beginning in 1995 with Bear Stearns & Company and continuing through his previous professional endeavors at Ethan Christopher Financial and as CFO of H Development Group, Mr. Burke has accumulated over 16 years of investment banking, commercial real estate consulting and construction project management experience. Prior to becoming a founding member of BTRE Partners, Silas participated in the origination, underwriting and closing of nearly $1 billion in financial transactions throughout his career.

Upon graduating from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Mr. Burke was awarded the opportunity to enter the Bear Stearns & Company executive training program and received high level exposure to Bearís core businesses, including IPO structuring, corporate finance and institutional investment banking. After completing the firmís rigorous twelve month education and training prerequisite, Silas was placed in the private wealth management division of the Boston branch where he joined a team of six investment bankers managed by the regionís top retail producer.

In 1997, Mr. Burke accepted the position of Account Executive in the Boston offices of the nation oldest investment banking firm Gruntal & Company, founded in 1880. While at Gruntal, he earned his Series 7 and 63 licenses. As a member of the companyís private client wealth division, Silas managed individual equities and fixed income portfolios, housing total assets in excess of $20 million. Mr. Burke was also entrusted by senior management with the responsibility of providing direct supervisory controls over the firmís account executive training program, managing a class of twenty account executive candidates per annum.

After relocating to Southern California, Mr. Burke joined Ethan Christopher Financial, the commercial real estate consulting and advisory subsidiary of Ethan Christopher, LLC. Ethan Christopher is recognized as regional leader in CRE investments and syndication. The Principals own and operate approximately 2 million square feet of class A and B medical office properties and shopping centers throughout California, Arizona, Nevada and Texas. As Senior Vice President of ECF, Silas reported directly to the groupís founders and was responsible for establishing new client and lending relationships for the groupís CMBS debt placement consulting business.

Most recently, Mr. Burke occupied the position of Chief Financial Officer at H Development Group of Los Angeles, CA. Silas is credited with spearheading the companyís expansion into syndicated multifamily real estate investments and commercial real estate development interests as Principal. As CFO, Mr. Burke was primarily responsible for all financial analysis, underwriting and executive approvals of project budgeting, construction financing, site planning, permits and entitlements. While at H Development Group, Silas also gained considerable hands-on development experience through comprehensive oversight of the companyís staff of Operations Directors, Project Managers, Superintendents and Subcontractors. During his tenure at H Development, Mr. Burkeís commercial clients included Francis Properties Group, Perry Ellis International and Prolific Restaurant Partners.

Mr. Burke graduated with a B.A. degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he also earned an approved minor in psychology and was an All Atlantic 10 Conference selection for the Minuteman Football squad. He currently resides in Santa Monica, CA.


Raymond J. Filakosky

During his 38 year career as Treasurer, Chief Credit Officer and National Credit Manager at leading regional and national financial institutions that include Citigroup, Met-Life Credit Corporation, Siemens Financial Services Group and Connecticut National Bank, Raymond Filakosky has directly supervised the credit analysis, risk management and final approvals of over $10 billion in debt and credit facility transactions. BTRE Partners welcomed Mr. Filakosky in 2012 as Chief Financial Officer, overseeing the firmís lender relations, fundamental analysis and underwriting process for structured commercial real estate debt, equity and sales transactions.

In 1973 Mr. Filakosky embarked on his path towards commercial real estate investment banking by earning an esteemed position at Connecticut Nation Bank, where he served as Treasurer for nearly a decade before becoming National Credit Manager at Litton Industries / Met-Life Credit Corporation in February of 1981. During his tenure at Met-Life, Ray was responsible for national credit analysis and approvals for the medical, machine, printing, aircraft and transportation industries.

Mr. Filakosky joined U.S. Concord Incorporated of Norwalk, Connecticut as Senior Vice President and National Credit Manager in 1986 where he supervised capital markets and credit oriented transactions related to the medical, printing and broadcast sectors. He also coordinated all compliance, documentation, collections and credit activities specific to these often complex industries.

During late 1993 Mr. Filakosky began what would become a 16 year term of dedicated service at Citigroup. Serving as Senior Credit Officer, Ray supervised a team of 30 analysts and credit officers and was responsible for the risk performance of a $4.5 billion portfolio of healthcare, muni/energy, capital markets and tax exempt instruments. He also directly assisted in reforming Citigroupís policies in the space of credit approval, risk rating, compliance, documentation and other pertinent areas supporting its broad scope of lending endeavors. During his commitment to Citigroup, Mr. Filakosky also acted as the primary strategic liaison to CitiCapitalís Remedial Management group and achieved Level II Credit Officer status which included $100 million tiered credit authority.

Raymond J. Filakosky is a graduate of St. Anselmís College and the American Institute of Banking. He also served in the United States Army, receiving an honorable discharge in 1971. Raymond is a former member of Board of Finance and Board of Tax Revenue of Milford, Connecticut.

As BTRE Partners CEO and General Counsel, Mr. McLaughlin oversees all BTRE commercial real estate related activities. Throughout his 33 years of industry experience with Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, Dillon Reed and Kidder Peabody/Paine Webber, John has directly contributed to the closing of over $20 billion in structured debt, equity, sales and securitized commercial real estate transactions. As a private consultant, Mr. McLaughlin has also represented the CRE interests of GMAC Commercial Mortgage (Canada), EMAC, Chubb Financial Solutions and AIG Environmental.

Mr. McLaughlin began his career in commercial real estate with Thacher, Proffitt & Wood in 1979 as an Associate Attorney representing several thrifts, a commercial bank and private investment banks in the origination and acquisition of conventional and government insured residential, multifamily and commercial mortgage loans.

In 1983 Mr. McLaughlin became a Vice President in Goldman Sachsí legal department where he was instrumental in establishing the procedures for due diligence and underwriting of residential, multifamily and commercial mortgage loan transactions. He was a key contributor to the their lucrative participation in GNMA project loan auctions. Later, in the Whole Loan Group, he founded and conducted the firmís commercial mortgage loan trading operation. During his tenure with Goldman he also provided a senior fixed income component to the companyís internal commercial mortgage loan securitization joint venture.

John McLaughlin joined a team of executives at Lehman Brothers focusing specifically on commercial mortgage real estate transactions in 1988. As Senior Vice President, he was a member of a group within Lehman responsible for sourcing, negotiating, structuring and coordinating multifamily and commercial whole loan and securitized transactions. Mr. McLaughlin also acted as the lead investment banker for several of the firmís largest transactions and securitizations including a public pool of Wal-Mart leases, a public/private credit tranche of seasoned multifamily mortgage loans, a (State of Connecticut/AEW) public/global LIBOR floater backed by a seasoned pension fund portfolio of commercial mortgage loans, and a ACES REMIC pass-through offering, among many others.

In 1999 Mr. McLaughlin accepted the position of Executive Managing Director of the GMAC Commercial Mortgage SLP. At GMAC, John jointly managed all aspects of the unitís CRE transactions, including determination of policies, production, finances, services and general infrastructure. Mr. McLaughlin also organized and supervised SLPís streamlined loan closing processes and developed and maintained the system for pricing new production and acquisitions. Mr. McLaughlinís team facilitated the tracking and hedging of SLP positions, coordinated multiple exits for the disposition of SLP assets and provided similar supervisory controls for GMACCM of Canada, Ltd. new conduit securities program.

John T. McLaughlin is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and Cornell Law School. He served his Country in the United Stated Army as a Field Artillery Officer, both Airborne and Ranger qualified. He served in Germany from March of 1972 Ė June of 1974 and in the 101ST Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, KY. John is a distinguished member of the New York State Bar and served as Governor, CMSA from 1994 Ė 2001. Mr. McLaughlin is also a former member of the Lloyd Harbor Historical Society, Huntington Arts Council and served as President of The Cold Spring Harbor Lacrosse Club for 7 years.
