As Riverside County sheriff’s deputies search for a 33-year-old Los Angeles man last seen Thursday at a Coachella Valley hotel, the missing man's wife is asking the public to help..

Omar Arce Meza arrived Thursday in Palm Desert on a business trip, but he was last seen around 11 p.m. at the JW Marriot Desert Springs Resort at the 74800 block of Country Club Drive, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

His wife, Diane Meza, told the Los Angeles Times that she spoke with him around 11:20 p.m. while he was at the Marriott. He was about to return to his hotel nearby and said he'd call her from his hotel room to say goodnight.

"But I never got that call, and I already fell asleep," she said.

His credit card transactions stopped at the hotel. Security footage showed him exiting the hotel on foot, but cameras lost him near an on-site parking lot, she said.

Meza, a vice president for AIG Financial Distributors, didn’t show up for business meetings scheduled on Friday. His wife and colleagues tried to locate him, but couldn't. By noon Friday, he was reported missing.

"It's so out of character for him. He's highly responsible and reliable," Diane Meza said.

The couple have been married for five years and have no children. They met eight years ago when he bought furniture at a store she was working at. Days later, he sent her a note asking her out.

"I knew he was something special. It was clear that this guy was different," she said.

Meza travels often for work -- with stops in Fresno and Las Vegas -- and visits Palm Desert about every other month.

The Sheriff’s Department has deployed bloodhounds and search-and-rescue crews to find Meza -- to no avail.

Meza’s family and friends have launched a Facebook group to post photos of Omar and share updates about the search effort.

His clients have joined the search, helping to pass out fliers.

Authorities have alerted law enforcement agencies, hospitals, jails, shelters and transit stations as far as the U.S.-Mexico border, Diane Meza said.

Meza was last seen wearing gray pants and a white shirt, and his wife guessed he may have light stubble.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s Palm Desert station at (760) 836-1600.

AIG Insurance Executive Goes Missing In Palm Desert, CA

Posted on January 12, 2015 |

ABC News:

PALM DESERT, Calif. (KABC) — A Los Angeles executive with AIG Insurance Company has been reported missing following a company dinner in Palm Desert.

Omar Meza, 33, went missing Thursday night. Co-workers last saw him take an Uber to his hotel.

He was last seen on video in the lobby of the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa around 11 p.m. Thursday. He failed to show up for scheduled meetings on Friday.

Investigators from the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station found Meza’s jacket and wallet on the hotel’s golf course, but they don’t expect foul play.

His wife says her husband was in a car accident in 2013 and suffers from memory loss. She thinks he has long-term damage and may not know where he is.

Search and rescue teams used bloodhounds to try and track Meza to no avail.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with any information on Meza’s whereabouts was urged to contact the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station at (760) 836-1600.

The AIG insurance company executive who disappeared on Jan. 8 was found dead, his family said on the Find Omar Meza Facebook page Thursday evening.

Omar Meza, 33, was last seen at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort and Spa in Palm Desert, California, around 11 p.m.

"We are with heavy hearts tonight as we announce the passing of Omar Meza," the post reads. "He was a very loved son, husband, brother and friend. We would like to take this time to grieve his passing and ask that everyone please respect our privacy at this time."

Meza was reported missing after he failed to show up for various meetings the following day.

His wife, Diane Meza, told KESQ-TV that her husband suffered from short-term memory loss and long-term damage from a traffic accident in 2013.

"We would like to thank all of the supporters this past week. It brings tears to our eyes to see how well loved Omar was, he will be missed by many," the post on Facebook reads.

His body was found in water at the resort, Riverside County Sheriff's Deputy Armando Munoz said, according to the Los Angeles Times.

http://www.people.com/article/aig-executive-found-dead

The Riverside County Coroner's office confirmed Friday that a body found in a Marriott resort pond in Palm Desert on Thursday is that of Omar Meza, a Los Angeles businessman reported missing a week ago.

An autopsy is pending and the cause of death may not be known for several days, sheriff's department spokesman Deputy Armando Munoz said Friday.

"There's not going to be an explanation today or through the weekend," Munoz said. "I don't even know if the autopsy will be done today."

Meza's body was spotted in a water feature surrounding foliage — one deputies did not search during their investigation — by a golfer teeing off on the 18th hole, authorities said

There was no sign Meza was in the pond where he was found, Munoz said.

"Items belonging to Mr. Meza were recovered along with search dogs ending their trails within close proximity to several bodies of water that were ultimately searched by the dive team," he said. "There was no other information indicating Mr. Meza was in any other bodies of water."

Deputies could not estimate the distance between where Meza's jacket and wallet were found and where his body surfaced, "but they were not in the approximate area," Munoz said.

Of the 48 acres comprising the J.W. Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa, about 24 acres are bodies of water. They can reach depths of 15 feet, authorities said, and their divers faced zero visibility.

Information on whether foul play was suspected wasn't immediately available.

Meza, 33, was last seen alive on Jan. 8 and reported missing Jan. 9 when he missed a scheduled appointment.

A divisional vice president for AIG Financial Distributors, Meza was in Palm Desert for a meeting. He was staying at the Courtyard Marriott Palm Desert hotel at Cook Street and Frank Sinatra Drive, and his wife, Diane Meza, suspected an Uber driver accidentally dropped him off 1.5 miles away at the Desert Springs resort.

Investigators reported finding Meza's coat and wallet at the Desert Springs resort, on the corner of Cook Street and Country Club Drive, where a 15-minute fireworks display was scheduled for 8:45 p.m. Jan. 8 as part of a private event.

The sheriff's department brought in teams — including divers and bloodhounds — to search the resort's grounds, golf courses and ponds and surrounding neighborhoods.

On Wednesday, when the sheriff's department reported it had completed its search to no avail, at least 50 family and friends and others from as far away as Portland, Ore., gathered in Palm Desert to conduct their own search. They scoured the streets of Palm Desert, handing out fliers and following up on tips shared through social media. On Thursday, about 20 volunteers expanded that search into Thousand Palms.

Family even expressed hope Meza was still alive when the sheriff's department divers said they didn't find human remains during their search of the resort's ponds and lakes.

At 2:15 p.m. Thursday, however, those hopes were dashed when the sheriff's department was called to the Marriott — a body had been found in a pond on the resort's golf course.

That evening, without giving any details, Meza's family posted on Facebook that he had died. They thanked all who had helped and offered support throughout the ordeal and asked for privacy.

On Friday morning, the coroner's office confirmed that the body found in the pond was Meza.

Coroner confirms body found at Palm Desert hotel was AIG executive Omar Meza

January 16, 2015, 10:35 AM

Coroner’s officials confirmed Friday that the body of a man found at a Palm Desert hotel was that of 33-year-old Omar Meza, an AIG executive from Los Angeles missing since Jan. 8..

An autopsy will be performed Friday to determine the cause of Meza's death, said Deputy Armando Munoz, spokesman for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

His body was found Thursday in a pond at the resort. Soon after, the family confirmed the death in social media. A post on the "Find Omar Meza" Facebook page and website said he had died.

“We are with heavy hearts tonight as we announce the passing of Omar Meza,” the statement said. “He was a very loved son, husband, brother & friend. We would like to take this time to grieve his passing and ask that everyone please respect our privacy at this time.”

Meza, a vice president for AIG Financial Distributors, was last seen about 11 p.m. Jan. 8 at JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort, where he had arrived that day for one of his frequent business trips.

His wife expected a call from him to say goodnight, but she never received one. After Meza didn't show up for business meetings the next day, his wife and colleagues reported him missing.

Surveillance video showed Meza walking out of the hotel but didn't show where he went. Sheriff’s deputies and volunteers searched this week at the hotel and the surrounding neighborhood. On Wednesday, sheriff’s officials announced that they had completed their search of the hotel.

Hoping to find Meza, his family, friends and clients launched a Facebook page, passed out fliers and organized a search party.

Meza was found in a pond at the resort in the 74800 block of Country Club Drive.

Later Thursday evening, the statement on the Facebook page thanked supporters.

“It brings tears to our eyes to see how well loved Omar was, he will be missed by many,” the statement said.

PALM DESERT -- Los Angeles resident, Omar Meza's body was found in a pond at the JW Marriott after a week of searching which included dive teams searching the waterways.

The sheriff's dive team did not discover Omar Meza, it was golfers who saw the body at a pond on the southwest portion of the large property at the JW Marriott.

The sheriff's department said evidence pointed to if Meza was in the water, his body would have been in the front ponds.

Omar Meza went missing last Thursday while visiting the valley for a business trip, and according to his wife he ended up at the wrong hotel.

It was tragic end to a desperate search in Palm Desert for missing Los Angeles businessman, Omar Meza.

"Palm Desert Police Department received a call approximately 2:15 where golfers who were teeing off at the 18th tee in that area, located a male subject in the water," said Deputy Armando Munoz with Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

That man was identified as Omar Meza who was missing for a week.

"There is no foul play suspected," said Deputy Munoz.

The sheriff's department says the pond where Meza's body was found was located in the southwest portion of the Marriott's property, and was not searched by the dive team.

The ponds at the resort vary in depth from a couple feet deep to 16 feet.

"There are no other leads or clues located near the body," said Deputy Munoz.

Omar's wife told KMIR earlier this week his wallet and jacket were found on a golf course.

The sheriff's department said they were not near the pond where his body was found.

The search was widespread from volunteer searches here in Palm Desert to news coverage across the nation.

Before this tragic conclusion, we spoke with Omar's wife on Monday, who described her husband with love.

"He was just absolutely the best thing that had ever happened to me, just made everything so much better. He was my champion," said Omar's wife, Diane Meza.

Now the Meza family is mourning their loss.

The coroner's office is conducting their autopsy to determine a cause of death.

"It's pretty much wrapped up until the autopsy is completed," said Deputy Munoz.

The coroner's office said they are currently conducting the autopsy, but could not give a timeframe for when they will have the results of that autopsy.

Divers Search Golf Ponds for Man Who Went Missing on Business Trip to Palm Desert

Omar Arce Meza, 33, was last seen Thursday night at a Palm Desert Marriott. He was reported missing after failing to show up for meetings Friday.

Divers searched golf course ponds on Monday for a Los Angeles man who traveled to the Coachella Valley for work last week before disappearing, deputies said.
Omar Arce Meza, 33, a vice president with AIG Financial Distributors who was traveling for work, was last seen at the Desert Springs Marriott in Palm Desert around 11 p.m. Thursday, the department said in a statement.

He failed to show up for scheduled business meetings Friday and was reported missing.
"I just really want the community to keep an eye out for him," his wife, Diane Meza, said.

Investigators with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department are searching for Omar Arce Meza, 33, a Los Angeles businessman who went missing in Palm Desert. He was last seen at his hotel on the night of Jan. 8, 2015. Kim Baldonado reports for the NBC4 News at 5 Monday, Jan. 12, 2015. (Published Monday, Jan 12, 2015)
Meza spoke to her husband as he left a dinner with colleagues in Palm Desert and said he would call her when he got to his hotel.
"One of his co-workers put him in an Uber cab. The intention was to send him to his hotel. I think there was probably some confusion on which Marriott to go to," Diane Meza said. "He was absolutely the best thing that ever happened to me. He made everything better."

Omar was staying at the Courtyard by Marriott, but security cameras captured him walking out of the Marriott Desert Springs Resort instead. His jacket and wallet were found on the resort's golf course.

The sheriff's department brought in bloodhounds, which pointed in the direction of water traps on the golf course, but his family said he was a strong swimmer.
Divers continued to search the murky pond and water traps on the course Monday, while his family handed out missing person's fliers and prayed for his safe return.
"Right now we're desperately looking for Omar. We miss him. He was my only brother so it's definitely very heartbreaking," said Sven Meza, his brother.
His friend Gustavo De La Mora, who said he could not believe Meza had disappeared, had not given up hope.
"He has family in San Diego, at this moment they haven't found a body in the Palm desert area after searches so they're hopeful that perhaps he found his way to San Diego," De La Mora said.

Meza was described as 5 feet 10 inches tall and about 160 pounds. He was wearing a gray pants and a white shirt when he was last seen.
Anyone with information or who may have seen Meza is asked to call the Palm Desert Sheriff’s station at 760-836-1600.

PALM DESERT, Calif. - The body of missing AIG executive Omar Meza was found floating in a pond near the 18th hole of the J.W. Marriott Desert Springs Resort on Thursday afternoon, reports CBS affiliate KESQ.

Dive teams and search dogs with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department scoured ponds and searched the grounds at the resort for several days after the 33-year-old vice-president for AIG Financial Distributors was last seen there on January 8 at about 11 p.m.

Family members posted this message on Facebook: "We are with heavy hearts tonight as we announce the passing of Omar Meza. He was a very loved son, husband, brother & friend. We would like to take this time to grieve his passing and ask that everyone please respect our privacy at this time."

Meza was reportedly in town for a work conference. His wife said he travels to the area every other month for work and knows the area well, but that he may have be suffering from long-term effects of a serious car crash in 2014.

KESQ reports that coworkers said they last saw Meza leaving an Indian Wells restaurant Thursday night. Meza told an Uber car service driver he wanted to go to the Marriott on Cook Street.

"We spoke on the phone. He was going to be heading to his hotel room," said his wife Diane.

He was actually staying at a smaller Marriott Residence Inn on Cook Street, but he got dropped off at the wrong hotel.

Diane Meza said she spoke to her husband around 11:20 p.m. on Jan. 8, as he left that night's dinner with colleagues; he said he would call her when he returned to his room but never did.

Meza was reported missing after he failed to show up for meetings on Friday Jan. 9. Police found Meza's jacket folded neatly on J.W.'s golf course, and his wallet.
