Hannibal bank president found dead in Illinois

Levon Mathews was found dead Wednesday morning.

No foul play is suspected in the death of a Hannibal bank president.

Levon Mathews was found dead Wednesday morning at a public rest area a short drive from Hannibal in Illinois. According to Pike County (Ill.) Sheriff Paul Petty, the Pike County E911 center received a call of an apparent deceased male lying on the ground at a public rest area on Route 106, west of Hull, Ill.

On their arrival, officers found Mathews’ body. He was pronounced dead at 8:55 a.m.

Mathews, 57, was president and CEO of F&M Bank and Trust Company in Hannibal for the past nearly three years.

The F&M board of directors released the following statement:

“The entire F&M Bank and Trust family mourns the loss of Levon Mathews,” Bank Chairman Don Bastian, said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and daughter, and our deepest sympathies go out to them. He will be greatly missed. Through this difficult time, F&M Bank and Trust will continue its mission of serving our communities.”

Mathews is survived by his wife Mary and daughter Sarah.

Pike County (Ill.) sheriff deputies and Illinois State Police assisted in the investigation. The James O’Donnell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
