Jeffrey H. Schwartz, 54, is Co-Founder of Global Logistic
Properties Holdings Limited, Chairman of the Executive
Committee, Executive Director and GLP Group’s Deputy
Chairman of the Board. Mr. Schwartz was last reelected
as a Director at GLP’s Annual General Meeting
on 20 July 2011. He also serves as a member of GLP’s
Investment Committee. Mr. Schwartz joined ProLogis,
a NYSE-listed Fortune 500 company, in 1994, and held
various executive roles, rising to Chief Executive Officer
in 2005 as well as Chairman of the Board in 2007.
While at ProLogis, Mr. Schwartz spearheaded ProLogis’
entry into the European markets in 1997, and also
established ProLogis’ Asia platform in 2002, initially in
Japan and eventually progressing to China and Korea.
Mr. Schwartz serves on the advisory boards of the
Guanghua School of Management, Peking University
and Fundacao Dom Cabral, Brazil. Mr. Schwartz is a
member of the Board of Trustees of Emory University and
a member of the Real Estate Roundtable, a non-profit
public policy organization. He also sits on the board of
Las Vegas Sands Corp., Sands China Limited and GLP
Japan Advisors Inc., the Asset Manager for GLP J-REIT.
Mr. Schwartz graduated from Harvard Business School
in 1985 with a Master of Business Administration.
Mr. Schwartz graduated from Emory University in 1981
with a Bachelor of Business Administration.

Jeffrey Schwartz, CEO of Global Logistics Properties Ltd. and former Tampa Bay executive, died this week at age 55.

An international real estate executive with Tampa ties died this week at age 55.
Jeffrey Schwartz, CEO of Global Logistics Properties Ltd., had taken time off "for health reasons" in early November,
Bloomberg reports.


Global Logistics develops, owns and operates industrial properties in China, Japan and Brazil.
Schwartz sold his company, Tampa-based Krauss/Schwartz Co., to industrial real estate behemoth Prologis in 1994. He became
CEO of Prologis in 2005 and resigned from that post in 2008.
Schwartz partnered with Government of Singapore Investment Corp. to buy the Prologis industrial portfolio in Japan and
China, which was rebranded Global Logistics Properties in 2009.


His business partner in Krauss/Schwartz, the late Elmer Krauss, is credited with developing Tampa Bay's first industrial park in 1956, in Pinellas County.

Friends and colleagues will gather at Fleming's Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar in Westshore from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday to remember Schwartz, said Julia Retting, director of industrial real estate at Cushman & Wakefield of Florida Inc. in Tampa.


Retting worked for Schwartz in the 1990s in Tampa. Schwartz, Rettig said, was "one of the smartest people I know
and absolutely the hardest worker I've ever known — who adored his family."

His wife, Carol, is from Tampa. He is survived by his wife and four children.

Shortly after resigning from Prologis, Schwartz spoke to the Tampa Bay area Real Estate Investment Council, providing a
global perspective on the recession and commercial real estate market.

Former Fortune 500 chief executive officer and Tampa businessman Jeffrey H. Schwartz expects President Obama’s economic stimulus package to lead to a recovery in the commercial real estate industry as the capital markets begin to thaw.

In Schwartz’s first public appearance since his resignation in November from Denver-based ProLogis, the world’s largest public industrial real estate investment trust, Schwartz said Congress must spend hundreds of billions of dollars as proposed or the recession will get uglier and nastier and possibly lead to the toppling of governments.

“It’s just necessary. … It’s a necessary evil at this point,” Schwartz told the Tampa Bay area Real Estate Investment Council during a Tuesday night meeting at the University Club when asked why a capitalist and free market believer would support massive government intervention.

Schwartz, returning from Asia, stopped in Tampa to speak to the group that included friends, former business partners and competitors. His wife, Carol, is from Tampa and the couple called the area home for years.

Schwartz rose to the top of ProLogis after selling Tampa-based  Krauss/Schwartz Company to ProLogis in 1994. His former partner, the late Elmer Krauss, is credited with developing the region’s first industrial park, in Pinellas County, in 1956.“We consider Jeff one of ours,” said Julia Rettig, a REIC director who worked for Schwartz in the 1990s in Tampa.Schwartz predicts unprecedented buying opportunities over the next couple years, better than those during the savings and loans crisis in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

He recalled one local industrial center his company acquired in the early 1990s for $11 a foot. The previous owner had paid $60 a foot. Schwartz’s company owned it two years and sold it at $30 a foot.

As for the economic stimulus, Schwartz said the feds are pushing hard to pump liquidity into the market, and relief won’t be instant, it will take time.

The recession extends beyond the United States to most parts of the world, he said. Places that were doing well through the first three quarters of 2008, such as Dubai, are now “falling apart,” he said.

The only country now growing, albeit more slowly, is China. Since leaving ProLogis, Schwartz has partnered with the Government of Singapore Investment Corp. to acquire the ProLogis industrial portfolio in Japan and China.

That $7 billion deal closed Tuesday, said Schwartz, who expects to run the global company from either Denver or southern California. When asked why he didn’t plan to move to Asia, Schwartz said the “scarcity factor” would give him more face time with Singapore government leaders during his weeklong visits each month.

Wearing jeans and a jacket, Schwartz quipped his dressed-down look wasn’t intentional. The airlines lost his luggage so he
stopped at Nordstrom’s to buy a dress shirt prior to speaking at the University Club.

He laced his speech with jokes about his stint as CEO and the reasons for his success with Asian government leaders. He said
he drank 14 shots of an Asian liquor during an evening with a Chinese mayor to become an honorary citizen.

“You have to sacrifice your liver and a few brain cells,” he said of how Tampa can increase trade with that region.
One lesson relearned in the recent boom to bust cycle is that if it’s too good to be true, it is.

Schwartz said he has told his business partners, “The next time I say people are paying insane prices, kick me and tell
me to sell everything.”

ProLogis is the world’s largest owner, manager and developer of distribution facilities. It has operations in 136 markets
across North America, Europe and Asia. The company has $40.8 billion of assets owned, managed and under development,
comprising 548 million square feet, or 51 million square meters, in 2,898 facilities as of Sept. 30, 2008. ProLogis’
customers include manufacturers, retailers, transportation companies, third-party logistics providers and other enterprises.
